Wine has been a passion of mine since the early 1990s.  I started collecting after visiting Spain and soon I caught on to the great red wines of France.  I’ve had the great fortune of tasting with some of the best palates in St. Louis since joining a Saturday tasting group in 1995.  Some of the faces have changed, but we still get together every week to trade stories and share great wine.

In 2006, I was invited by acclaimed Bordeaux critic and friend Jean-Marc Quarin to taste the new 2005 vintage en primeur.  We were hosted by owners and winemakers from most of the top properties and tasted hundreds more wines at his office.  It was my first and glimpse at professional tasting -- I will always be indebted to Jean-Marc for this once in a lifetime experience.  Later that year, I was invited to taste, in Bordeaux once again, with the Grand Jury European.  Celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the famous 1976 Spurrier tasting, we blind tasted 1995s from Bordeaux and California, followed by several days of tasting the 2003 vintage.

The focus here is, of course, Bordeaux.  But, I’ll include some thoughts on other wines friends inflict on me.
